Bruselas (EFE).- . La Comisión Europea (CE) rechazó legislar a nivel europeo la prohibición del uso del burka en lugares públicos pese a las iniciativas que se han promovido en varios países de la Unión Europea como España, Bélgica o Francia.
“No veo la necesidad de legislar el uso del burka a nivel europeo”, afirmó hoy en rueda de prensa la comisaria europea de Interior, Cecilia Malmstrom.
La pasada semana, el pleno del Senado español aprobó una moción del grupo parlamentario popular que instaba al Gobierno a realizar “las reformas legales y reglamentarias necesarias” para prohibir el uso del velo integral islámico (burka o niqab) en los espacios públicos que no tengan una finalidad estrictamente religiosa.
En Francia, el proyecto de ley para prohibir el velo integral en todos los espacios públicos del país, incluida la calle, pasó hoy sin ninguna oposición un primer trámite parlamentario en la comisión legislativa de la Asamblea Nacional (cámara baja).
La Cámara de Diputados belga aprobó a finales de abril un proyecto de ley para prohibir el uso de estos tipos de velo en todos los lugares públicos, aunque la aprobación en el Senado no llegó debido a la disolución del Parlamento por la convocatoria de las elecciones anticipadas del pasado día 13.
