Buscaminas

Recuerdo la primera vez que jugué buscaminas. Estaba en la casa de mi amigazo Pedro haciendo un trabajo cuando de pronto lo veo divirtiéndose de lo lindo en su 386. Le pregunte que hacía tan entretenido cuando teníamos un trabajo que entregar al día siguiente. Estaba absorto en sus pensamientos y no me respondió. Me acerque lentamente y vi una pantalla repleta de cuadraditos y números que no entendía.

– Qué juegas?
– Se llama buscaminas
– Y en que consiste?
– Tienes que descubrir donde están las minas. Los números te indican cuantas minas tienes alrededor
– Me dejas jugar?

Y en ese momento piso una mina. Me miro de reojo y se paró a un lado. Me senté. Estaba emocionado! Es que no mucha gente tenía computadora en esos tiempos. Tome el mouse lentamente y me puse a jugar.

– Qué tengo que hacer?
– Con el mouse izquierdo vas descubriendo los cuadraditos. Los números que aparecen te dicen cuantas minas tienes alrededor

Ya había escuchado pero no me quedaba claro cómo iba a ganar.

– O sea que si sale un uno por ejemplo significa que alrededor hay una bomba?
– Así es
– Entonces me conviene que salga un número mayor porque de esa forma se que tengo más bombas a mi alrededor.
– En parte si, pero la cosa es descubrir todos los cuadraditos que no tienen bomba
– Ahh!

Y así empecé mi primer juego de buscaminas que si mal no recuerdo duró apenas unos segundos cuando pise una mina. Años después entendería que mientras menor el número mayor la información de los cuadraditos libres que al fin al cabo son los que cuentan.

Aquí medió un paréntesis de varios años hasta que nos compraron nuestra propia compu. También era una bella 386 que mi hermana quemó accidentalmente el mismo día que la trajeron. La enviamos a reparar y cuando la trajeron de vuelta mi hermana no quería ni tocarla por temor a malograrla de nuevo, así que me dedique a descubrir el nuevo juguete. No se cómo llegue al buscaminas pero no lo jugué mucho. Sucede que perdía a cada rato y aún no había descubierto los trucos del juego. Pasaron algunos meses cuando vi a mi hermana muy concentrada

– Qué haces?
– Jugado buscaminas
– Y cómo haces para abrir los cuadraditos tan rápido?
– Es fácil, marcas las bombas y luego haces click derecho y click izquierdo

No quise preguntar nada más por temor a parecer un despistado. Cuando mi hermana se fue me metí a jugar un buen rato. Al principio no entendí lo que me había dicho pero con un poco de práctica le fui agarrando el truco. Así termine el juego varias veces lo que me hizo sentir bien hasta que llego mi hermana.

– Que lento
– Cómo que lento? Acaso tu puedes jugar más rápido?
– Claro, mira mis records
– Dónde?

Y me mostró sus para mí en ese momento imbatibles records de buscaminas. Y los tenía en todos los niveles: principiante, intermedio y avanzado. Más o menos eran algo así como 12, 48 y 330. Me parecía que la viciozasa iba dejarme muy mal parado con sus records y eso como hermano mayor no lo podía permitir. Así que aprovechando mis ratos libres empecé a jugar y a bajar mis tiempos. Al principio jugaba un poco de todo pero sentía que dispersaba mis fuerzas así que me dedique por entero al nivel principiante que era el más rápido de terminar. Baje mis marcas rápidamente. Primero 18, luego 15, luego 13 y finalmente un 11. Había batido la marca de mi hermana! Pero…como hacía para grabar mi nombre? Hum, después de meditar un rato se me dio por revisar los mejores tiempos sin percatarme de las sorpresa que me llevaría. 10 segundos en principiante y 45 en intermedio! Estaba desolado, simplemente no lo podía creer. Me fui a comer algo. No puede ser! Es una mujer y menor que yo además, repetía en mi cama sin poder dormir. Al día siguiente me levante muy temprano y me dedique en cuerpo y alma al juego. Primero un 12, luego varios 13, otro 12 y al fin un 11. En las siguientes horas repetiría varios 11 pero sin poder bajar a 10. Al fin poco antes de la hora de comer un 10. Estaba cerca pero tenía que descansar un poco. Baje a almorzar y a replantear en mi cabeza la estrategia para jugar más rápido. Debía comenzar por las esquinas o por el medio? O tal vez por los lados? Me parece que llenar las esquinas ayuda un poco más porque a veces estas se quedaban vacías al final.

Con renovados bríos regrese a la compu dispuesto a todo. Estuve hasta altas horas de la noche pero ni siquiera repetí un 10. Muy desanimado me fui a dormir. No puede ser, otra día más voy a tener que verle la cara de felicidad y aguantar las burlas de mi querida hermana. La noche paso muy lenta, casi inmóvil. Cuando abrí los ojos salté de la cama y corrí al cuarto de la compu, pero adivinen quien estaba entornillada ahí.

– Oye ya jugaste bastante
– Pero si recién me levanto, además ayer jugaste todo el día

Ni modo, a cruzar los dedos y esperar que no baje sus marcas. Qué podía hacer? Muy fácil. Molestar!

– Ahí no es bomba!
– Cállate!
– Ya tranquila, solo quiero ayudarte. Ahí sí es, cuidado!
– Puedes deja de molestar?
– Ya, está bien…

– Uyuyuy, ahora que vas a hacer? Esa puede ser una bomba.
– Ya verás
– Oh que pena era bomba
– Grrr!
– No pienses tanto. Ya te demoraste, ya no bates el record

Tuve suerte, como a las 2 horas se aburrió sin poder bajar sus marcas. Empecé con fuerza, 10, 11, 10, 12. Estaba cerca de batir su record. Pasaron 3 horas y al fin cuando ya estaba a punto de tirar la toalla hago click, se abre toda la pantalla, hago otro click, se abre otro poco. Empiezo a llenar y de repente se ilumina todo. Fueron 9 impresionantes segundos! El juego me dejaba escribir mi nombre por primera vez. Era el triunfo del esfuerzo. Apagué la máquina y me fui a comer. Al poco rato escucho un grito familiar.

– Nooooooooo!
– Siii!
– Cómo lo hiciste?
– Para que veas!

Mi hermana no salió del cuarto toda la tarde. Yo no necesitaba batir otros records, con el de principiante bastaba. Mi orgullo estaba intacto.

Al día siguiente mi hermana se refugio en la sala de la compu todo el día y así los siguientes días de la semana. Ya me estaba preocupando cuando un buen día la encuentro almorzando y con una sonrisa cómplice. Fue mirarla y correr a la compu.

– Nooooooooooooo!
– Sii!
– Como lo hiciste?
– Para que veas!

7 segundos! Imposible, eso sí es imposible. Estaba desesperado. Había alguna forma de hacer trampa? Ese record era sencillamente de otro planeta. No podía creer que alguien batiera la mano tan rápido. Qué suerte para más piña. Pero no soy de los que se rinde fácilmente. Me tocó el turno de sumergirme en el juego. Intente varios días seguidos infructuosamente. Tenía que descansar, tomar un poco de aire. Empecé a jugar interdiario. Los descansos me venían bien porque mis marcas estaban muy buenas. No me era nada difícil bajar los 10 segundos. Hasta que sucedió. Click izquierdo, se abrió todo, click izquierdo, se abrió todo lo demás. Un par de click más y remate una brillante victoria en solo 4 segundos! No contento con eso decidí batir el record en intermedio. No me demoró mucho hacer 42 segundos. Estaba en la gloria.

– Nooooooooooooooooooo!
– Si!
– Cómo?
– Jump

Esos días fueron de una divertida rivalidad con mi hermana. Ella nunca pudo batir los 4 segundos en principiante. Sinceramente eran pocas las personas en el mundo que hubieran podido batirlo. Pero en intermedio hizo un espectacular 38 segundos que para mí resulto inexpugnable. Así que digamos que el duelo termino empatado…hasta hace poco.

Volví a las andadas recientemente, un día que no tenía mucho que hacer. Para mi sorpresa no había perdido la rapidez. Un 10, un 9, varios 11. Pensé que con un poco de suerte podría repetir los 4 segundos. Pero mi sorpresa fue mayúscula cuando al día siguiente se abrió todo y por segunda vez en mi vida repetí esos 4 fantásticos segundos. Felizmente existen los print screen para compartir con ustedes ese juego.
