Professor ex PUCP suffer an injust expulsion
by: José C. Alvarez

Dear friends:

I would like to say you that Professor Pablo Quintanilla, who wrote the article “Catholic Universities” at the Harvard Review of Latin America in fall 2012, was part of the PUCP Council that expelled me of that university unfairly.

http://www.pucp.edu.pe/endefensadelapucp/neutras/columna-universidades-catolicas-de-pablo-quintanilla-en-publicacion-de-harvard/

In a part of his article, Pablo Quintanilla said that “The most important requirement for a Catholic university is to be an excellent university, that is, to have international standards of excellence for research, teaching and social responsibility. Both kinds of institutions look for the truth and are concerned about transmitting it to younger generations, being relevant to society in the quest of knowledge and equity. They also seek to be cooperative and compassionate…”

In strong contradiction with his words, it was argued by him and anothers members of de University council of the Peruvian Catholic University that my intelectual production didnt exist, however it is registered in SCOPUS base.

Why someone says something and acts in opposite form?

In effect in its transcription 1197 the Universitary Council, which is integrated by professor Pablo Quintanilla and others members, said: “in relation the research and publications of the Alvarez Merino professor, it had been determined that the publications declarated by that professor with the titles.
– Application of complex adaptive systems theory to Ica wine and grape cluster,
– Knowledge building in participative projects,
– Local ecological knowledge and the impacts of global climatic change on the community of seaweed extractors in Pisco,
possibly published in the electronic page of www.picmet.org, are in reality abstracts of presentations by him in some PICMET organization events in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009, respectively, being two of them co-authory …”

Is in this form that them, in the peruvian case, “look for the truth”?

1.- The same expression ‘being two of them in co-authory’ that use the University Council should be think in a complete paper and not only in an abstract as they said. Would be reasonable to seek a co-author for write only an abstract?

More, in communication of june, 12 of 2007, the own PUCP university had said, in relation to the same work: “a paper of his authory: Applicatin of Complex Adaptive Systems theory to Ica wine and grape cluster”. The question is why the university council PUCP, integrated by Pablo Quintanilla, contradicts the statement by the university in 2007.

These are my publications, registered in SCOPUS, whose existence unknown university council of the PUCP:

2007-24.pdf

08r0343.pdf

09r0436.pdf

The publications registered in SCOPUS are important because through them is elaborated the SIR ranking of universities, where the PUCP is in the third place between peruvian universities.

The PUCP have 814 publications in SCOPUS, and my contribution has been 03 (374; 443; 487), as appear in the next text:

3 SCOPUS_imagenes.pdf

2.- In the process called as ratification that is realized each several years, also participated two collegues of the same Industrial Engineering Section of the PUCP, who were admitted without problems in categories with more exigence like associated and principal. However, they haven’t got publications registered at base SCOPUS and they haven’t got the doctor degree. Is this fair?; is this plural?

But the professor Pablo Quintanilla is agree with this unfair.

3.- At 2009 I presented a research proposal for participate in funds for research at Concytec – Procom. In spite to have the participation of researcher of another Peruvian university and a research group of Canadian university, the proposal was refused by the Engineering Chief of the PUCP who said there was “technological risks”. The project was about an innovator artefact for the marine algae wash. Which was the technological risk?

4.- In March 2009 I was offered money for resign, but I did not accept.

5.- The report on my teaching performance delivered by the dean of the Faculty of Arts was canceled.
Why so much injustice?

Pablo Quintanilla was agree with this injustice.
