    1. Which animal species would you most like to study? Why?

I would like to study species number 4, the Dolphin, because it is a very intelligent and friendly animal that should not be in danger of extinction.

Unfortunately, due to ocean pollution, overfishing and river pollution, its recovery will be very difficult.

    2. Are there any endangered animals in your country? Whose responsibility is it to help them?

If there are animals in danger of extinction in my country, for example the white-winged guan (Penelope albipennis) is a bird in the chachalaca, guan and curassow family Cracidae. It is endemic to northwestern Peru.

I think that the responsibility belongs to everyone, from the government and the laws it implements to care for these species and from the citizens to respect them and take care of the environment.

    3. What are some pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos?

I think that as an advantage I think that zoos take care of the species, protect them and study to preserve their habitat.

The disadvantage that I see and have always heard is that these animals must be free in their natural habitat. But if we stop for a moment, each species is in this world to generate an ecological balance and we should not alter it.

    1. Which animal species would you most like to study? Why?

I would like to study chimpanzees more because I believe they are one of the species that most closely resembles humans. If they were to become extinct, a lot of valuable information about them could be lost forever.

    2. Are there any endangered animals in your country? Whose responsibility is it to help them?

Yes, the spatuletail hummingbird is a unique species in Peru, classified as one of the most beautiful hummingbirds. It is endangered due to forest depletion and hunting. It is the responsibility of SERFOR to preserve them, and I believe it’s also the duty of every individual to protect them to prevent their disappearance, especially since they contribute significantly to pollination.

    3. What are some pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos?

I think the major pro is that zoos enable research and education by allowing observation of animal behavior. On the downside, it inhibits the development of wildlife, which is crucial for their physical well-being.

    1. Which animal species would you most like to study? Why?
I would like to study the snow leopard. Its adaptation to high-altitude habitats is fascinating and could provide significant insights into its behavior and conservation.
    2. Are there any endangered animals in your country? Whose responsibility is it to help them?
Yes, there are endangered animals in my country. It is the responsibility of everyone, including governments, conservation organizations, and local communities, to help them.
    3. What are some pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos? Some pros of zoos include conservation and education, but there are also ethical and animal welfare concerns.

    1. Which animal species would you most like to study? Why?
I will like to study the dolphins, because they are very friendly with the people and both oceanic and river are in danger of extinction because the pollution of the ocean and overfishing that have a consequence of less available of food. On the other hand river dolphins are affected by the construction of dams that contaminated the rivers.
    2. Are there any endangered animals in your country? Whose responsibility is it to help them?
Yes, there are animals endangered in my country like: andean bear, andean condor, antear, andean cat, and others.
There are many responsibilities to help the animals endangered like:
    1. reduced deforestation and the restoration of thousands of hectares of former forest land.
    2. the regeneration of forest on abandoned land and the creation of wildlife corridors between protected areas.
    3. Teach your friends and family and learning about how interesting and important they are.
    4. Visit a national wildlife refuge, park or other open space, get involved by volunteering at your local nature center or wildlife refuge.
    5. Reduce your use of water in your home and garden so that animals that live in or near water can have a better chance of survival.
    6. Herbicides and pesticides may keep yards looking nice but they are in fact hazardous pollutants that affect wildlife at many levels.
    7. One of the biggest obstacles to wildlife living in developed areas is roads. For this reason must slow down when driving.
    8. Don´t shooting, trapping, or forcing a threatened or endangered animal into captivity is also illegal and can lead to their extinction.
    9. Never buy furniture made from wood from rainforests. Recycle your cell phones,

    3. What are some pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos?
    Pros:
    1. Zoos educate the public about animals and conservation efforts.
    2. Zoos produce helpful scientific research.
    3. Zoos save species from extinction and other dangers.
    4. zoos help rehabilitate wildlife and take in exotic pets that people no longer want or are no longer able to care for.

    Cons :
1.- Zoos don’t educate the public enough to justify keeping animals captive.
2.- Zoos are detrimental to animals’ physical health.
3.- Zoo confinement is psychologically damaging to animals.

Which animal species would you most like to study? Why?

I’d most like to study chimpanzees because of their remarkable cognitive abilities and complex social behaviors. They share many traits with humans, making them fascinating subjects for research into evolution, communication, and culture. Understanding chimpanzees better could offer insights into our own species’ past and present.

Are there any endangered animals in your country? Whose responsibility is it to help them?

Yes, Peru is home to several endangered animals, including the Andean condor, the Peruvian spider monkey, the yellow-tailed woolly monkey, and the giant otter, among others. Protecting these species is a shared responsibility among the Peruvian government, conservation organizations, scientists, local communities, and individuals. Efforts may include habitat preservation, anti-poaching measures, public education, and sustainable development initiatives.

What are some pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos?
    Pros:
Zoos play a crucial role in conservation and education by serving as vital centers for efforts to preserve endangered species through breeding programs and raising awareness about conservation issues. Additionally, they provide valuable research opportunities, enabling scientists to study animal behavior, physiology, and health in controlled environments, which contributes to scientific knowledge and effective species management strategies. Furthermore, zoos facilitate public engagement by offering visitors the opportunity to connect with wildlife firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity and conservation through educational programs and exhibits.

    Cons:
Critics express significant concerns about animal welfare in zoos, noting the potential for stress, behavioral issues, and health problems, especially among species with complex social and cognitive needs. Space constraints in even well-designed facilities further exacerbate these challenges, impacting the physical and psychological well-being of animals. Maintaining genetic diversity within captive populations is also problematic, as inbreeding can lead to health issues and reduced reproductive success. Additionally, ethical dilemmas arise regarding the morality of confining animals for human entertainment, particularly when their natural behaviors are restricted or when conditions are inadequate. These issues highlight the intricate balance required to uphold conservation objectives while safeguarding the welfare of individual animals in zoo environments.

Hi! Gabriela Lostaunau here. I am going to answer the questions:
Which animal species would you most like to study? Why?
I would like to study the lemur, I think they are very intelligent and tender. I will love to now one of them someday.
Are there any endangered animals in your country? Whose responsibility is it to help them? Yes, a long variety of species like the Choro Monkey, the Titicaca frog. I think the responsability to take care of them is from the legal autorities.
What are some pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos?
Pros: I dont like the zoos, I think its very cruel have animals in that way, but maybe if there are some animals who are rejected from they habitat for some reason maybe the could go to the zoo. Cons: for money, the people expose the animals to every kind of ridiculous game and atraction.

    1. The mandrill seems nice to me, and I understand that it was on the red list of endangered species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, however, after an apparent recovery in terms of the threat of extinction, it was once again threatened by overhunting and fragmentation of its habitat, many efforts by rescue groups are noted, but apparently they are not enough.
    2. If there are many, it is unfortunate what happens, however, the indiscriminate felling of trees and environmental pollution contribute to the extinction of different species, these public entities such as INRENA, the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) and the the same environmental prosecutor’s office, are inert and apathetic to the different events of vulnerability of spices in danger of extinction.
    3. One of the advantages of zoos is that they can help protect animals in danger of extinction, and at the same time contribute to the research of flora and fauna, but it is not only zoos that I believe are one of the best options. natural reserves, sanctuaries and natural parks, the latter two I believe should be reinforced more in the area of preserving the environment, but it is due to a greater expenditure of the public budget, but this could be sustained if a canon were created for the environment. As for the disadvantages, I think there are several, such as overcrowding, animal abuse, there is not enough budget for their food and they are subject to malnutrition and abandonment, but I still think that the best thing would be to promote an economic fund that contributes to the preservation of sanctuaries, nature reserves and zoos, and thus promote awareness aimed at the population with the sole purpose of caring for the environment with sustainable use by promoting recycling.
