Endangered means to be under threat or near extinction. When a species/animal is endangered it means that they are disappearing fast or have a very small population – not large enough to survive. Extinction means the end of existence for a species. Let’s learn about some species in danger:

Now, after watching the video and working on unit 11, answer the following questions:
- Which animal species would you most like to study? Why?
- Are there any endangered animals in your country? Whose responsibility is it to help them?
- What are some pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos?
I would most like to study the snow leopard because of its elusive nature and the complex issues it faces, such as poaching, habitat loss, and climate change. In Peru, animals like the spectacled bear, jaguar, the gallito de las rocas (Andean cock-of-the-rock), and various species of monkeys are endangered due to deforestation and hunting. It is the responsibility of the government, local communities, and conservation organizations to help protect them through stronger regulations, habitat restoration, and awareness efforts. Keeping animals in zoos has pros, such as contributing to conservation and research, but the cons include the stress of confinement, lack of natural environments, and ethical concerns regarding animal welfare.
