No era su amigo, nunca cruzamos palabra alguna pero tuve la suerte de conocerlo siendo yo alumno libre en las clases de filosof�a del profesor Federico Camino Macedo. Lo recuerdo en el aula siempre entusiasta, con preguntas inteligentes e incitadoras de pol�mica. Constantino era buen amigo del profesor (y el �nico con el derecho de llamarlo "Fico" en plena aula) y casi siempre "a la salida" le mostraba sus hallazgos bibliograficos sobre fenomenolog�a y dem�s.
Sus bondandes como lider, educador, intelectual, aliancista y sobre todo de ser una persona buena son de conocimiento p�blico. Constantino Carvallo era a fin de cuentas un "phronimos" (�l,como buen lector de Arist�teles sabr� reconocerse en ese t�rmino).

Quisiera compartir con ustedes algunos pasajes que he tenido subrayados de su libro "Diario Educar"

Por mis alumnos, me he sentido grande y poderoso. A veces hasta sabio y elocuente. Me he sentido padre bueno, compa�ero, hermano, amigo. Tambi�n, aunque duela confesarlo, me he sentido hijo, hombre d�bil que se ampara en otra fortaleza. He cogido sus miradas atentas y las he llevado conmigo para salvarme de la soledad y de la pena. Solo al recordarlas he podido abandonar la seriedad y darle menos importancia a mi vida.
He dialogado en silencio con muchos y me he sentido l�cido y ameno. He aprendido la bondad y el candor de algunos; de otros, en cambio, he copiado el vigor, la seguridad, el entusiasmo. Porque los chicos deben ver en un maestro a una persona firme, que les muestre que llegar a la adultez es deseable.
Eso es lo que exhibo, pero muchas veces no es lo que siento. A veces creo que la vida no vale la pena ser vivida, que no es importante conseguir lo que se quiere. Pero jam�s he compartido con un alumno un momento de depresi�n. Cuando muri� mi padre me ausent� del colegio para no compartir con mis compa�eros mi duelo. As� que he pasado la mitad de mi vida tratando de mostrar a mis alumnos algo que no siempre soy. Me persigue un sentimiento de usurpaci�n, de estar en el lugar del otro.

Un buen maestro es quien mantiene una relaci�n asim�trica con sus alumnos: da y no espera recibir. Yo lo m�ximo que espero es que se afirmen a s� mismos y que sepan adaptarse a este mundo.

Cuando encuentro un exalumno en la calle, no me interesa saber qu� estudia. No me interesa tampoco si ha ingresado en el primer puesto a una universidad porque igual puede ser un canalla. Me interesa cu�l es su pasi�n y si la est� llevando a cabo. Creo que la pasi�n es lo �nico que nos salva.

Hemos visto el conmovedor filme de Bergman, Fresas salvajes. Yo no creo en las edades del hombre ni en teor�as sobre la evoluci�n lineal de su vida. Ni siquiera infancia, juventud, vejez son etapas que se suceden una tras la otra. Podemos ser ni�os o viejos a cualquier edad. Tolstoi tiene una divisi�n m�s interesante, pero tambi�n en secuencia. Para �l hay tres fases: en la primera se vive para las pasiones, la comida, la bebida, la diversi�n, etc. As� hasta los 30. Despu�s comienza el interes por los hombres, por el bien, por la humanidad, por entregar una obra. Finalmente, a partir de los 60, ni las pasiones ni los hombres, ni siquiera uno mismo, interesan m�s. Se busca a Dios, la espiritualidad.
�No podemos acaso en un mismo d�a atravesar edades diferentes? �Soy yo demasiado voluble? Por la ma�ana entusiasmado, pasional. Al medio d�a un ni�o, angustiado, irresponsable. Al anochecer busco el absoluto.
