Eating for health...

junio 11, 2010
Choosing the right food is sometimes difficult because not always delicious food is healthy. In fact, it is usually the opposite, think of French fries or hamburgers mmmmm :P. In our country, we can find a variety of vegetables, tubers and even meats that is really good for our health.

But as it is always said the amount is the key, a little bit of everything is good for our body and our health. Mostly if you practice sports regularly
Personally I try to choose healthy choices but it is not always easy, our fast life makes it even more difficult to find the right food. And as I already told you I love CHOCOLATE...

But is it easy for you to choose healthy food? Do you eat healthily or do you prefer delicious food? Share your ideas with us and your ideas o the what do you think section of this Unit.

Look into the future

junio 09, 2010
Life can sometimes turn out complicated and challenging. This also means that leading a good life seems not to be easy. People often have valuable lessons at hard times of their lives. Most experiences that were difficult at the time might become necessary for the future.

People tend to remember things that put them in serious or difficult situations, thus those things will be in their minds for a long time and become valuable lessons. In fact, there are a lot of things that happen in our lives everyday. Hence, if an event is not special or we easily handle it, there will probably be nothing remained in our minds later on. What’s more, when trying to deal with obstacles in life, people may discover many matters and they will use that experience in the next similar problems in their future. For example, a person who was too busy to care for his parents, lost his father because of an accident, just then, he realized that he wasted precious time. It was a very hard time for him, but now he spends more time with his family and puts them first.
Most experiences in our lives that seemed difficult at the time might become valuable lessons for the future. What do you think?

Growing older

junio 03, 2010
Being a child might be the best time in our lives, yet some people bear in mind that being an adult is better. I believe that any age can help us to be better persons and grow to become more mature and well-behaved citizens.
Back in time, I remember myself playing with school friends and having as main interest: studying for exams, preparing projects, getting together with classmates and going to the library to do research every other day. When school time was over, decision-making on what to study or how to deal with our future lives seemed to be always a common dilemma; things changed completely.
For me, the important “firsts” were my university studies, putting off my personal life. That’s why I started university life at 16 and obtained my first bachelor’s degree when I was 21 whereas for other school classmates first priority was traveling abroad, getting married, etc.
Getting married is a serious and mature decision to be made in our lives. At what age you think people should get married and put it as “first”?

MMMMM.... Chocolate.... :)

mayo 26, 2010
I consider myself addicted to chocolate. I simply love it and can't stop eating at least one bar a day, but to be honest usually more than that :S. My favorite: nuts, and almonds. I don't really like white chocolate.

Searching the web I found some interesting facts about it that i wanted to share with you:

How Chocolate Is Made...
From Tropical Seed to Treasured Treat
Chocolate starts out in the tropics, where the cacao tree grows. It is the result of a long, delicate process that begins with the cacao tree and ends with a perfectly molded piece of sheer delight.

Cacao Vs. Cocoa
Updating Your Chocolate Vocabulary
Cacao? What is that? Don’t you mean cocoa? And how do you say it anyway? Chocolate linguistics can be confusing. It comes down to this:

The official name of the chocolate tree is Theobroma cacao but, some experts say, over the years the word “cacao” became Anglicized, and probably through error, people started replacing it with the word “cocoa”. (Most of us grew up saying cocoa bean, not cacao bean.)

Now, with the rebirth of old-style, artisanal chocolate there is a movement to reclaim the bean’s rightful name: cacao (pronounced Ka-Kow).

Whether you love it or not from time to time we really enjoy a nice bar of chocolate. What is your favorite? Share your ideas with us and also answer the questions on the What do you think section of your book - Unit 9 page 116... After writing this I will ran for a bar of Sublime...

New Year's Resolutions

mayo 26, 2010

Although we think we are totally committed to the achievement of each promise we make at New Year’s Eve, the truth is that we usually forget them on January 2. But, why does this happen? Are our promises so difficult to attain or are we making promises just to join our friends' enthusiasm to improve their lives? Whatever the answer is I think we should focus on one weakness at a time. Let's say, punctuality, laziness, procrastination, overeating or any other that might be our worst "drawback". After making our promise, and to help ourselves keep on the effort, we should make a list of "habits we have to work on". And maybe it would be a good idea to keep a record on a chart with the goals we have accomplished, just to praise and encourage ourselves to go further. Nevertheless, and overall, we should set feasible challenges; unattainable goals will lead us to discouragement and disappointment. Well, I hope these ideas are useful for others as well. What about you? What other advice can you share with us on how to make effective New Year's Resolutions?

Unit 8 - Choosing a career

mayo 19, 2010
When you are ending school everybody starts asking :"What are you going to study?" "What University are you going to choose?". For some people the answer is very simple, that was case I knew what I wanted to study and I don't regret at all my desicion. However, some of my classmates had a hard chance making up their minds and some of them still have problems coping with their desicions. In your case was it difficult? Share your ideas about this topic and about the questions on the waht do you think sections on page 106.

An international Language

mayo 18, 2010
English is considered to be the lingua franca, that is, the generally recognized international language for business, communications, international affairs, academic publications and most other fields of human relationships. As far as I am concerned, English has gained this unique position because of the several characteristics that allow it to be easy to learn by a great number of people with completely different backgrounds. I find it really difficult that another "new" language might take its place and overtake English. If there is to be another "language" to take this place in the future, I think it will be a virtual one because computers and "world 2.0" are really invading our minds.

Music music music...

mayo 15, 2010
MUSIC

Music is an art form whose medium is sound. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike), "(art) of the Muses".

The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within "the arts", music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art.

To many people in many cultures music is an important part of their way of life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be, except that it is 'sound through time'."

Music is an important part of my life and my favorite type is classical... What about you ? Write your opinions and don't forget to answer the questions in the what do you think section on page 96 of your books.

Wonders of Engineering

mayo 13, 2010
When we talk about Peruvian Wonders of Engineering we might immediately think about the recently built cloverleaf interchanges throughout the city of Lima, or maybe the future tallest building in the city beeing built in San Isidro. However, there are some other human achievements in Peru we cannot put aside, such as Machu Picchu, considered one of the seven modern wonders; or the magnificent city of mud Chan-Chan in the north; or the highest railway in the world called Ferrrcarril Central; or the lately improved and enlarged port of Callao which will allow faster and cheaper loading and unloading services. And there are lots and lots of other great engineering works around our beautiful and hilly country you might like to talk about.
And as complement to all this amazing structures, the main public schools have been rebuilt and supplied with all kinds of facilities in order to provide better and higher quality education to the young. I hope this effort remains continual because one swallow does not make a summer, and certainly there are some other grounds on which something should be done, for instance, health, employment and poverty.
