The name originated in a letter by someone claiming to be the murderer that was sent to the London Central News Agency and disseminated in the media. The letter is widely considered to be a hoax, and may have been written by a journalist in a deliberate attempt to heighten interest in the story.

The name of the pet was Jack and his owner was looking for a suitable house for its because they have to travel tomorrow morning and the cage that he had unfortunately doesn't fit in the airplane.
