Peruvian diversity comes from an evolution of cultures and societies traced back to the pre-Hispanic era, where each of them contributed to the development of new traditions, making the Incas the perfect example of it.
As time passed by and new customs were introduced, it resulted in a mixture of beliefs and traditions that now add a special touch to our cultural heritage. According to the Peruvian National Institute of Statistics and Informatics, Peru celebrates 6,882 cultural manifestations.
Most of these events are considered to fall under civic or religious category festivals; some were started to encourage domestic travel, while others were created to support our country’s regional growth. Not all of them, though, are as well-known as the ones we’ll discuss in this blog.
These cultural events honor our ancestors’ legacy and provide a window into the many cultures that exist in Peru. Here are five of the most typical holidays in Peru!
Inti Raymi: Festival of the Sun
Virgen Del Carmen Festival
Señor de los Temblores Festival
Señor de Qoyllority Festival
Virgen de la Candelaria Festival
