If I have heard of academic articles in renowned journals. As a journalist I have written many articles and journalistic notes in the newspaper La República when I started my career and then in blogs, however when studying an MBA I have been able to write some articles that I have not yet published but that have been reviewed with the rigor that implies a academic article, because it implies more research, verification of information. It involves putting together a writing plan with a thesis based on arguments, many times for this it is required before preparing a mental or plot map.
Academic journals are important because they are very thorough in reviewing the notes and therefore publishing there is complicated, so you must know the style, how they work.
It is important to make a sketch and have it checked by a neutral person who does not know anything about the subject and confirm that he understands it, as well as a specialized person. Both should understand what the subject is about. You can even ask for collaborations to write a specialized article.
For me the important thing is to have an open mind to receive corrections, suggestions or comments from those who review the note and then from the same editorial of the academic journal to improve and polish the publication.
I think that another advice I would give is always to investigate that what we have written is not similar to another publication, always cite the sources so that we are not accused of plagiarism, and above all always look for originality and relevance in the subject.

Since we started university, we have worked especially with the Academic Journal. Now as a professional I wrote some papers. Earlier this year I sent a paper to a Academic Journal for peer review.
In my opinion, the Academic Journal if they are important, as it provides knowledge on specific topics, brief in relation to a book and are specialized.
I think the third tip, I like it and I practice it. Usually, I start writing the ideas, then I make an outline and little by little I write the document while I read other documents on the subject of my work.
It helps to know that all documents have a beginning, an intermediate and an end. The introduction presents the background, the problem, the hypothesis, the objectives and what has been written on the subject so far. In development, raise the arguments that support the proposal. Finally, in the conclusion, the main points developed and the response to the hypothesis raised in the introduction are summarized.

It is true that to write a paper it is vital to consult recognized Academic Journals that support our own research. In addition, recognizing the ideas of other researchers is a fundamental practice that as professionals we should not forget. I congratulate you for your comment is very interesting.

    1. Of course I know this type of publications, because I have been editor in some of them and I have written some papers. For example, the journals “Tradición” and “Aula Palma” (Ricardo Palma University), and “Espinela” (PUCP). In the first, I have written on journalism topics, while in the second I have published literature articles.

    2. They are very important. They contribute to generating new knowledge in the different academic fields of our society, from the scientific to the spiritual and from the socioeconomic to the humanistic. In this way, researchers increase their knowledge about their specialty. Without these academic journals, the research of a country would never advance. And in that sense, universities have an important mission in producing them.

    3. In life you always have to learn to crawl before you start running. Therefore, I think the first steps are fundamental. In that sense, the first advice (“Have a strategy, make a plan”) is the one I consider most useful, because once everything is organized the rest is done naturally in an investigation. On the other hand, when you don’t have a strategy or a plan, the research is not going anywhere.

    4. One of the things I have noticed in my work as editor of academic journals is the bad writing that many researchers have, especially those that come from careers linked to engineering, mathematics and medicine. And I don’t mean the style, which would be too much to ask. I refer only to the question of form. I would advise researchers to take special care with ortography and syntax, as it is more than necessary at this level of texts.

1-Have you ever written an academic journal? Have you ever heard of one?
If I have heard of academic journals in my area of Sciences such as:
En Blanco & Negro (PUCP) is a semi-annual electronic magazine (July – December) on teaching in higher education. Aimed at university teachers, psychologists, educators and managers of higher education, it presents research and innovation proposals in the form of class experiences, academic articles and interviews.
PRO MATHEMATICA magazine is a publication of the Department of Science, Mathematics Section, PUCP. This magazine hosts high standard research articles both in exposure and in content in pure mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics.

2- In your opinion, are academic journals important? Which way?
Academic journals are very important since although it is true they present the point of view and reference and style of each writer but it is based and based on scientific basis, with proven facts and theories.
3- Which of the tips do you find most useful? Why?
I agree with tip 6, I am currently applying this strategy as we will publish as a couple. It will allow me to strengthen my results and quickly publish.
4- According to what you have read in our Academic Supplement 1, what other tips would you add?

    1. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to write an academic journal; however, I have a clear idea about it. During my post-graduate, I had to do a lot of research that required reading different books, papers, and academic journals to prepare my final thesis.
    2. Definitely, academic journals are an important source of information to research and it will represent the start point for other researchers. It seems to me like a way to contribute to the development of a specific study. Moreover, a good structure of this type of publication should let the reader distinguish easily between facts and opinions.
    3. According to the article written by Rowena Murray, something that I found useful from these tips is the importance of doing an outline and write. She recommends being aware of what type of writer you are or to know exactly what your target journal is …Therefore, it’s a good practice to decide the main topic, the content, the purpose and even the feedback you will need. All this advice sounds logical to me, but sometimes many writers are not conscious about the importance of understanding these aspects before start writing.
    4. The academic supplement 1 states the basic criteria to understand a conference paper and a journal paper. While I found all the tips really useful and practical, I think that maybe would be interesting to know, additionally, how to criticize or evaluate an article. However, I’m not talking about criticizing grammatical structures, I’m referring to interpret correctly what the writer tried to communicate and how he or she did it. Sometimes first impressions tend to be more subjective or personal, so we have to be careful. Therefore, it is always better after reading (even for a second time) asking some questions that can help to ensure that you understand the purpose of the article such as… Was there anything that was left unfinished?, Did the author raise questions or make points that were left without an answer in the paper? Is the organization of the article clear? Does it reflect the organization of the thesis statement? What did you learn? What are you going to do with this information? All these types of questions can help as guidance to help to find out the weak points of some research.

I agree with Christina, especially when she talks about the importance of having an open mind to accept our own mistakes and to correct them. Sometimes it is a difficult task to be criticized, so writers should be prepared to hear different opinions about his work.
